It Started With a Ritual

As a licensed mental health counselor, I’ve always believed that self-care is more than something we make time for when life gets overwhelming. It can be found in the small rituals we return to every day.

For me, one of those rituals happened at night.

After long days of work, I would shower, complete my skincare routine, brush my hair, and braid it before bed. It was simple, but it became one of the ways I slowed down, reset, and took care of myself.

But my relationship with haircare wasn’t always that simple.

I grew up struggling with dandruff and an oily, sensitive scalp, and finding products that worked for me was frustrating. So many oils, serums, and leave-ins felt too heavy, too greasy, or simply weren’t something I could comfortably use every day.

And eventually, I started wondering:

Why did haircare feel so different from skincare?

A Question I Couldn't Let Go

With skincare, we’re taught to care for our skin consistently. We cleanse, hydrate, protect, and build routines around prevention rather than waiting for a problem to appear.

But with haircare, the conversation often begins after the damage has already happened.

Dryness. Breakage. Split ends. Dullness.

We repair what’s already there.

I wanted to approach haircare differently.

More intentionally. More preventatively. More like skincare.

I wanted products that could become part of an everyday ritual rather than something I reached for only when my hair needed to be fixed.

Creating What I Wished Existed

That idea stayed with me.

So I created the products I wish I had growing up.

Aster Beauty was born from my own experience, but it was never meant to be just about my hair. It was about creating a different way to think about haircare: one rooted in consistency, intention, and prevention.

We began with an AM + PM system designed around that philosophy, with lightweight, buildable formulas created to protect, nourish, and restore without weighing the hair down.

Because I believe prevention is better than repair.

And because caring for yourself doesn’t have to be complicated or extravagant. Sometimes, it’s simply choosing to make something as ordinary as caring for your hair a moment that belongs to you.
